When most think about the month of September, brilliant colored leaves, fall weather and football come to mind. But when September approaches, we at Strategic Pharma think about pain. September is Pain Awareness Month, and our organization focuses on bringing awareness to pain research, chronic pain conditions, and pain management.

Why should you bring awareness to pain?

Pain is a problem for countless Americans and drives health care costs. Even if pain does not affect you or your family now, education is important to bring awareness to others.

• Pain affects more Americans than cancer, heart disease and diabetes combined.

• Approximately 76.2 million Americans have suffered from pain that lasts longer than 24 hours.

• Chronic pain is the leading cause of long term disability.

• Pain is the most common reason Americans access the health care system.

Why does Strategic Pharma bring awareness to pain?

Pain is commonly treated by prescription opioids. Our society is facing an opioid epidemic, resulting in an outrageous number of opioid addictions, overdoses and deaths.

• As of 2014, over 1.9 million Americans have a substance abuse disorder from prescription pain relievers.

• Drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the U.S.

• Over 18,893 overdose deaths are related to prescription pain relievers.

• In 2012, 259 million opioid prescriptions were written - which equates to every American adult receiving their own bottle.

• 94% of survey respondents (2014) in treatment for opioid addiction said they chose to use heroin because prescription opioids were "far more expensive and harder to obtain."

Our mission is to research and develop safe alternatives to opioids. We are currently conducting preclinical and clinical trials with opioid alternatives to treat a variety of conditions and diseases. We have successfully scientifically-verified and developed a non-opioid solution for pain. Explore our research on pain.
